School Bus Routes / Stops

School Bus Route

Should you wish to have a closer bus service to your property, you should first contact the School Bus Coordinator located at the Manjimup Senior High School on 9771 1466, who will inform you of what is required.

Should you wish to have a new bus stop or improve an existing bus stop on existing school bus routes then contact an officer from the Design Services Department and the following will occur:

  1. You will need to include the exact location of the school bus stop and on what road. (Provide a plan if possible.)

  2. The officer will make contact with you to arrange a suitable time for an onsite inspection.

  3. Are there any special requirements your child may need (i.e. is he/she disabled).

  4. Following the onsite inspection, the officer will contact the School Bus Coordinator who will need to confirm the location with the School Bus Operator, prior to giving approval for the construction.

  5. Once the School Bus Operator has consented to the stop and its location, you will be advised how to construct the bus stop, and that you are responsible for the cost.

  6. Following its completion, you will need to advise the officer, who will again inspect the school bus stop, then advise the School Bus Coordinator that it has been approved.

The school bus stop will be sited in a practical location with clear sight line distances of 220 metres in accordance with Main Roads WA guidelines. If these distances are attained, no advanced warning signs will be necessary.

Street Lights

If you observe a street light/s in your area not working, you can do either of the following:

Phone Western Power on 13 13 51 and work through the prompts. When you get to the operator you will need to know the following information:

  1. The name of the street/s the light/s are out on.

  2. If it is an individual light out, you need to:

    • obtain the pole number if possible;
    • its nearest intersecting street name; or
    • the house number in the street closest to the pole
    • the name of the person reporting the faults; and
    • a contact phone number of the person reporting the fault.

Western Power will then advise that it has been logged into the system and may give you the faults report number.

Western Power have also given a commitment to have reported faults fixed within 10 working days. Should the problem exceed that period since you reported it, again phone Western Power and advise the operator of the faults report number and the period it has not been fixed.

If you wish, you may contact an officer from the Design Services Department who will report the fault for you, however the officer will also need to have knowledge of the above information.

Land Resumption due to Road through a Property

This usually occurs when a landowner has had his property re-surveyed to install a new fence and discovers that the one or more of the survey pegs are located within the road or on the opposite side of the road. Where the roads are Shire roads then by contacting the local council the issue can be resolved by Council resuming part of your property for inclusion within the road reserve.

Process:

Should you discover that your property boundaries are located within a road or on the other side of a road then the following is required:

  1. Contact an officer from the Design Services Department who will arrange to meet you on site to investigate and discuss the issue.

  2. Following confirmation of a Shire road "cutting through" a property Council will then employ a licensed surveyor to undertake survey works to confirm the exact dimensions of the problem.

  3. Once surveyed the owner is asked to sign off on the plan depicting the proposed land resumption.

  4. Council then requests the Valuer General's office to value the land and then negotiates the payment for the resumed land with the landowner.

  5. Once the landowner and Council have agreed on the resumption Officers from the Design Services Department will progress the resumption with the Department of Land Administration (DOLA) and the Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

  6. The landowner will be contacted and paid once new titles have been issued by DOLA.

The overall process from first contact through to the issue of new titles and payment can take up to two (2) years to complete.

It is expected that no cost for the resumption, once identified, shall be borne by the landowner.
