What can I Recycle?
How & What to Recycle at Waste Disposal Sites in the Shire of Manjimup
While the Shire of Manjimup endeavours to promote and recycle as much as possible it is the individual waste site contractors and attendants that have the final say on what can be recycled.
Contractors and attendants have full salvage rights to all recyclables at waste sites and they will recycle only if it is economically viable. Please note that the site attendants determine what can be recycled and contaminated recyclables will be charged the normal rate.
The Shire of Manjimup does not at present have kerb side recycling.

How to Recycle
- Ensure that your recyclables are sorted, clean and uncontaminated.
- Bring your different recyclables in separate containers or be prepared to place them in designated containers on site.
- Prepare your recyclables as per the directions below.
- Please follow the attendant’s instructions when depositing your recyclables.
Drink cans
Presently only aluminium cans are able to be recycled. Please do not place steel cans with aluminium cans.
Glass
All glass must be separated into individual colours of green – brown and clear and in separate containers or be prepared to separate and place into designated containers on site.
Clear glass only– bottles and jars. NO drinking glasses, sheet glass, opaque glass, car windscreen glass, or glass cookware (this type of glass cannot be remelted).
All glass transported to Perth is subject to strict inspection. Any contaminated glass is rejected and then is returned and dumped or taken to landfill in Perth, this is both expensive and time consuming.
Newspapers and cardboard
- Newspapers and cardboard must be clean and uncontaminated.
- Newspapers are to be tied in 10 kg bundles.
Items for resale and reuse
- Items for resale and reuse can be deposited at the attendant's discretion.
- Sites will not accept clothing. Items of clothing or bedding can be given to various charitable institutions such as Vincent de Paul or the Good Samaritans.
Oil - Hydraulic fluid and Brake Fluid
- Will be able to be recycled in the near future, as Council has been successful in obtaining Commonwealth funding to install oil recycling pits.
- Recycling facilities will be at Manjimup, Pemberton and Walpole.
Scrap Metal
- Scrap metal must not be contaminated with domestic rubbish, non-ferrous metal to be separated.
- Sites will accept car bodies, wire, 44-gallon drums, batteries, corrugated iron and white goods.
- Fridges must be degassed prior to delivery.
- Please do not put disused gas bottles of any description in the main scrap metal pile, because when the metal is being processed resulting explosions can be fatal to site workers. Petrol from car body tanks should be emptied for the same reason.
