Why have a Youth Advisory Council
- Young people have a lot of ideas and energy that can be used for positive change.
- To involve young people, in meaningful ways, in decisions which affect them.
- The Youth Advisory Council provides young people and the Shire of Manjimup with a reference group for youth issues.
What is the Youth Advisory Council?
- A forum for young people to discuss the issues that affect them and to advise local and state government on policy, programs and services in the area of youth affairs.
- The Youth Advisory Council will have a maximum of 20 young people aged between 12-20 who live in the Shire of Manjimup.
- The Youth Advisory Council will be a youth focus group for the Shire of Manjimup.
What do you get from being a Member of Youth Advisory Council?
- Opportunity to develop skills in decision making, teamwork, developing creative ideas and finding out how local and state government operates.
- Meet with young people, make friends and socialise.
- Enhance leadership skills.
- Opportunity to participate in youth projects for example Camps, Bus Trips, and Dance Parties.
- Have Fun.
What will be expected of me if I become a member of Youth Advisory Council?
- Be a member of the Youth Advisory Council for one year and attend monthly meetings.
- Alternate turns of Chairperson and Secretary at each meeting.
- The Youth Development Officer may require the Youth Advisory Council to participate in other related activities as they arise.
- Members of the Youth Advisory Council will have a strong role in encouraging greater participation by young people in community initiatives.
