Selection on the Basis of Merit

The Shire of Manjimup is an equal opportunity employer.  All applications for a position will be assessed against the same selection criteria included in the position description.  Applications will not be assessed until after the closing date and will be assessed by a selection panel of two or three staff members.  Selection will be based on merit and applicants will be assessed based on their past experience and ability to perform the duties of the advertised position.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR APPLICATION

Your application should include the following information:

  • A statement addressing each of the selection criteria.
  • A copy of your current resume.
  • Contact details of two employment referees.
  • Applications should not be submitted in plastic sleeves, binders or files – no staples please!
  • Please do not submit originals of important documents such as qualifications and references - submit photocopies only.

Addressing the Selection Criteria

Selection criteria is the most important part of your application.  They are the measure of:

    • essential skills,
    • knowledge,
    • experience,
    • qualifications and
    • training

stated in the position description.

Your application should contain a statement specifically addressing each of the selection criteria with examples that demonstrate how you meet the requirements of each objective. 

Address each item separately and make your comments adequate enough to demonstrate your ability and meeting of the criteria.  Failure to address the criteria may result in your application not being accepted.

Resume

You should also attach a copy of your current resume, listing current contact details, academic achievement, professional training, memberships and relevant employment experience.

Referees

Finally, you should include the names and contact details of two referees we can contact to provide information on your past work performance.

LATE APPLICATIONS

Ensure your application is received prior to the closing date and time as late application may not be considered.

POST APPLICATION PROCESS

Receipt of your application will be confirmed in writing.  Short listed applicants will be contacted by telephone to arrange an interview.  Unsuccessful applicants will be advised in writing.

Pre Employment Medical

Short listed candidates may be requested to undertake a medical examination as part of the final assessment process (at the Shire’s expense).

Police Clearance

Applicants may be required to produce a National Police Clearance (at the Shire’s expense.) 

Working with Children Check

Where an employee is likely to be working directly with children, it is mandatory for an appointment to be subject to a satisfactory “Working With Children Check”.

Proof of Qualifications will be required.

Canvassing of Councillors or staff will disqualify an applicant.
