Lions donate wheels for Home and Community Care

The Lions Club of Manjimup recently donated a new wheelchair to the Shire of Manjimup's Home and Community Care Services. The State of the art wheelchair replaces wheelchairs that have been in operation for around 15 years. Lions Club members fundraise frequently throughout the year and always return all funds to the community.

Liz Lockyear, Manager at Home and Community Care is delighted with new wheelchair "we are lucky enough to be the latest recipient of Lion's fundraising efforts, providing a much needed new wheel chair which boasts all the latest safety features including a seatbelt, leg straps and easy to store features.

The new wheelchair is also ergonomically designed to be comfortable and safe for the user. At a cost of around $800 the new wheelchair will be put to good use by staff providing assistance to clients when transporting to medical appointments, outings, shopping trips and the like.

Shire President Paul Omodei said "we are extremely grateful to the Lions Club for this donation and for all the work they do as a group for the community. Community groups such as the Lions Club form the backbone of a community and this is a perfect example of the great work they do."

Lions Club spokesperson Dee Roebuck said that "once a year we look at our funds and make a decision on which charity or service we will donate to and we try to always donate to a local charity". The Lions Clubs approached Manjimup Home and Community Care in January and asked whether they needed a hand with anything and have been fundraising for the wheelchair since.
