MEDIA RELEASE – Shire survey seeks the community's dream for 2027
The Shire of Manjimup is undertaking a major review of its Strategic Community Plan 2015-2023 (the Plan) and wants to know what the community's hopes and dreams are for the region. A community survey launched on Wednesday, 1 February 2017 and is open until Tuesday, 28 February 2017 as a means of gathering ideas and aspirations from the community, which will then be incorporated into the Plan.
The Plan, which covers themes on the natural environment, economy, infrastructure and social factors, was updated by the Shire in 2015 but it has been four years since the broader community has been invited to provide input into the Plan. Shire President Wade DeCampo explained that the Plan plays an important part, as a strategic basis, for all of the services provided by the Shire. "It is not a document that gets formulated, put on a shelf and forgotten about. This plan is referred to in everything we do, including all Council reports, business plans and other guiding strategies."
The survey is designed to measure community satisfaction with a range of Shire of Manjimup facilities and services as well as seek the community's priorities for the next 10 years.
"All residents, workers, students, business operators, ratepayers and visitors, of any age, from within the Shire of Manjimup, are encouraged to participate in the anonymous survey, or another form of consultation ," said Cr DeCampo. "There will be other opportunities for the community to take part in this process," said Cr DeCampo, adding that "the aim is to capture the best possible cross-section of opinions and visions of the community, no matter how great or unique they may be".
In addition to the survey, the Shire will be hosting a series of Community Consultation Café's in Manjimup, Pemberton, Northcliffe and Walpole during the month of February. "The 'café's' will pop up in each town and allow people to drop in at their convenience, stay as long or as little as they wish, have a cuppa with us and tell us about where they see the Shire evolving over the next ten years and," said Cr DeCampo.
Community members are encouraged to complete the survey online via www.manjimup.wa.gov.au/communitysurvey or by completing a hard copy of the survey, which will be mailed out to residents and ratepayers, available for download and print from the abovementioned website, or available for collection at the Shire of Manjimup Administration office and public libraries. Details of the Community Consultation Café's can also be found on the above website.
