Directional Signage

Tourism is an important part of the economic fabric of the Shire of Manjimup. Directional signs can assist visitors to our Shire to locate a business, thereby increasing business viability. However, large numbers of signs at intersections can also reduce road safety, clutter up the landscape and greatly reduce the higher quality aesthetic and natural beauty of this region. The purpose of directional signage on public road reserves is to provide directional assistance only, not advertising.

For more information, refer to Council's policy Road Verge Directional Signs. To request a directional sign, complete and submit the Application for Directional Sign to Technical Services.

Street Signs

The Shire of Manjimup maintains street name signs, both urban and rural, parking signs and ‘No Through Road’ signs.  If you notice a damaged or missing street sign please let us know by emailing the details to or calling 9771 7777.

All other traffic signs (except advertising signs) are the responsibility of Main Roads WA.  Should you see a damaged or broken sign, please report the sign type and location to Main Roads WA on 138 138 or via email

Variable Message Sign (VMS)

The Shire of Manjimup has a portable VMS board that is mobile and is only temporarily displayed in any road reserve. It is to be located adjacent to the roadway and has the ability to display a number of individual messages that can be seen by road users.

Local community groups may apply to the Shire in writing at to display an up and coming local event. The application will be reviewed by the Manager Technical Services and contact will be made with the relevant community group to advise if the application has been accepted.  The VMS board will not be used for commercial advertising.

Refer to Council's policy Variable Message Sign for configuration of your local event message and prioritisation of use of the VMS board.

Please note if there is an emergency situation within the Shire of Manjimup, the VMS will be used to convey any priority information to road users and cancellation of a community group booking will be advised by phone.
