The Shire of Manjimup won the 'From Plan to Place' Category and also received a commendation for the WA Minister for Planning Award at the 2020 Planning Institute of Australia WA Awards for Planning Excellence for the Brockman Street Food and Beverage Precinct. Director of Development and Regulation Brian Robinson and Jocelyn Baister, Coordinator Statutory Planning, attended the awards event on Friday 27 November in Perth.
For organisations involved in planning, the Awards are a chance to be publicly recognised for their achievements, and to showcase leading practice across a range of planning disciplines and sectors.
Promoting planning success stories through the Awards is a great way to demonstrate to the community why planning matters.
This award recognises the implementation of a plan into a successful place and acknowledges achievement on the ground. It sees a plan come to life and result in a quality planning outcome.
It is awarded for an effort that demonstrates a significant achievement for an area, either a single community or a geographic region, in accomplishing positive changes as a result of planning. It demonstrates the implementation from plan to place that makes an outstanding contribution to advancing planning practice.
"Winning this award and receiving a commendation is unquestionable recognition that we are doing some great things and that we are being acknowledged as a 'can do' organisation on a State and National level. With all the forward planning and effort put into the Brockman Street Food and Beverage Precinct, the project wasn't without its difficulties. We have overcome these and gone one better to take out an award and a commendation for the space. Great areas like this don't just fall into place, and I commend our team for their tremendous efforts. The Brockman Street Precinct is something to be really proud of, it is a fantastic area for events and with the warmer weather now coming and the free wi-fi, I can see the alfresco areas being more widely utilised" commented Shire President Paul Omodei.
