Photographers go to extraordinary efforts to capture a moment in time that can inspire and move others. This is beautifully exemplified in the Emerging from the Darkroom exhibition on display at the Manjimup Art Gallery from 16 October to 13 November 2020.
Emerging from the Darkroom features the work of members of the Southern Forests Photography Club. All of the images are drawn from the Club's 2020 Annual Photography Competition and include categories featuring Open-Mono and Colour (both framed and matted sections) and a class for Youth under 16. The exhibition highlights the work of Club members at various stages of their photographic journey. The depth of talent is not restricted by age. Such is the creative complexity of the work that separating the Open category entrants from the Youth category is almost impossible.
Among the photographs are evocative images of star-filled night skies, dramatic coastlines with wild, surging seas and unusual moments of urban and rural life that are anything but ordinary. They will leave you in awe of the photographers' eye for colour, mood, movement and light.
Shire President, Paul Omodei said "These kinds of competitions and exhibitions foster creativity, innovation and an opportunity for photographers to display their work to a wider audience".
