Following a lengthy delay the Shire is pleased to announce that the third and final section of the Brockman Street roof was completed by the contractors last week.
Shire President Paul Omodei commented "it is fantastic to see this project coming to completion with only a few finishing touches still to be finalised. The Brockman Street precinct is now ready for an official opening and we look forward to celebrating this with local contractors and the community when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted".
While it has been a lengthy process the delays relating to fire restrictions and the location of water mains where unavoidable, it is not unusual to have delays when managing a project of this scale.
The use of local contractors was a priority for the Shire and local contractors were used wherever possible. A total of 31 contractors and sub-contractors were utilised to complete the project.
Franzine Karamfiles said that "Karamfiles Builders are proud to partner with the Shire of Manjimup to complete the Brockman Street Roof Cover as the primary contractor. Despite the challenges experienced during the course of the project we hope that the retailers and the community will enjoy the new roof over Brockman Street".
'We now have before us a covered, all weather, multi-purpose town-square that we hope will become a busy food and beverage precinct and will be utilised for events and markets. We thank the community and particularly the business owners in Brockman Street for their patience over this time", added Mr Omodei.
The Brockman Street project commenced with Karamfiles Builders digging footings for the roof frames in January 2019 followed by the installation of the frames. Civil works including the lifting and replacement of pavement and asphalt and relocation of services occurred from June to October 2019, this was followed by the installation of services, trees and landscaping and installation of the roofing material. Some minor finishing touches and beautification works are still to occur.
