Noongar Art Exchange: Celebrating Connections to Culture and Country
Twenty stunning artworks by Wardandi Noongar Artists will be exhibited at the Manjimup Art Gallery as part of the Shire’s celebration of NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week from 4-11 July, 2021.
Featuring a combination of traditional and contemporary styles, the paintings continue the tradition of visual storytelling of one of the oldest living cultures on earth.
The connection to land and culture is evident in every artwork. It reflects the flora, fauna and landscape of the Artist’s place together with stories from family song lines and the Dreamtime. ‘The works highlight the rich and deeply spiritual relationship that Noongar People continue to have with the land and the natural environment’, said Shire President, Paul Omodei.
The Noongar Art Exchange collection has been developed by the City of Bunbury and will be exhibited in WA for a short time before travelling to Jiaxing City in China as a token of friendship and goodwill.
Noongar Art Exchange will be on display at the Manjimup Art Gallery from 3 July to 7 August 2021.
