MEDIA RELEASE - Community Recreation Hub project moves into its next stage
January 2015
The Manjimup Community Recreation Hub project, jointly funded by the Shire of Manjimup and the Department of Sport and Recreation, has achieved a significant milestone with the completion a detailed needs analysis which forms the basis of the master planning phase of the project.
Throughout phase 1A, input from stakeholders regarding current and desired sporting facilities was sought via a survey. This information, along with recommendations from State Sporting Associations regarding requirements for facilities, advice from previous studies and information contained within the SuperTown Growth Plan and the Shire of Manjimup Sport & Recreation Strategic Plan 2014-2024, is summarised in the Needs Assessment report.
"Though no decisions have been made regarding the future of any of our sporting facilities, the Needs Assessment Report does provide recommendations and considerations for each sport, which will be taken into account during Phase 1B when the Master Plan will be developed," said Shire President Wade DeCampo.
Consultant Phillip Gray from SGL Group, in conjunction with Creating Communities, an architect and quantity surveyor, is undertaking the development of a Master Plan for the future of the Manjimup Community Recreation Hub, which includes Collier Street Reserve, Rea Park Reserve and Manjimup Recreation Grounds. "The community's participation and feedback thus far has been crucial, and there will be a number of opportunities for the community and sporting groups to provide further feedback and input on the options outlined in the Master Plan, before it is put before Council for consideration," said Cr DeCampo. "Manjimup has a rich sporting culture, which is why it is so important for the community's views to be properly understood and accounted for in the options outlined in the Master Plan."
Community workshops on the draft master plan will be conducted in March 2015, with opportunities for the community to provide feedback on the draft Master Plan during as well as after the workshops.
The Manjimup Tennis Steering Committee has been making the most of this opportunity by taking an active role in the consultation phase to date.
