A playful pride of 14 technicolour, tracksuit-wearing cats is set to take over the Manjimup Library when Feline Good opens on 26 September 2025. Created by WA artist Bruno Booth, these slinking, stretching, powder-coated aluminium felines are on tour with ART ON THE MOVE, transforming spaces into their playground as they doze, prowl and peer from surprising corners.
More than just mischievous companions, the cats act as guides, encouraging us to reflect on how we move through cultural spaces and gently re-orientating the way we experience visual artworks.
Playful, vibrant and delightfully out of place, these sculptural animals transform their quirky surroundings into a canvas of creativity. Designed to spark curiosity, they offer children (and the young at heart) a fresh and engaging way to experience art. With their vivid colours and whimsical charm, and the added thrill of tracking them down through the Pawsome Cat Adventure activity, these feline figures invite young minds to explore, imagine and create.
“You would never normally see cats in a library space. But at the same time, they’d be at home if they were there—even if the space isn’t designed for them.” said Bruno Booth.
Booth’s cross-media practice is deeply informed by his lived experience of navigating the world from a wheelchair. In Feline Good, he extends that perspective, highlighting how both cultural and physical spaces are experienced differently by each of us.
Bruno Booth: Feline Good was originally commissioned for The Art Gallery of Western Australia’s 2021 survey of Western Australian artistic practice, The View From Here. This regional tour of the exhibition is presented by ART ON THE MOVE with the support of the WA State Government’s Regional Exhibition Touring Boost. Feline Good will be on display from 26 September until 30 October 2025.
