The future of the Shire of Manjimup is about to be rewritten, and locals are being asked to hold the pen. Residents are being called on to help shape the future of their towns, with the launch of a major community planning project to create five new Town Blueprints for Manjimup, Northcliffe, Pemberton, Walpole and Quinninup.
Funded by the Native Forest Transition Community Small Grants Fund and the Shire of Manjimup, the Town Blueprints will set the strategic direction for the next decade and beyond, guiding decisions on land use, infrastructure, economic development, environmental management and community wellbeing. Together, they will form the foundation for a new Council Plan, due to be developed in early 2026.
Shire President Donelle Buegge said the project represents a once-in-a-decade opportunity for every resident to influence the Shire’s long-term direction. “This is about putting our communities in the driver’s seat. Each of our towns has its own identity, strengths and aspirations. These Town Blueprints will capture what makes them unique and ensure the strategies we put in place are community-led, practical and future-focused. If you want a say in how your town grows and thrives over the next ten years, now is the time to get involved.”
Community engagement will run from 10 October to 9 November 2025, with opportunities to have a say both in person and online. Residents, businesses, community groups, young people and other stakeholders are encouraged to contribute ideas, attend workshops, take part in surveys, and share insights on an interactive online map.
Draft Blueprints will be released for community feedback before final adoption by Council in early 2026.
Shire President Buegge said all contributions would make a difference. “Whether it’s a big idea for tourism, a practical need for housing, or a vision for your local environment, your input will directly shape the Town Blueprints. This is your chance to make your mark and help us create towns that are stronger, more vibrant and ready for the future.”
