MEDIA RELEASE: February 2026
The Shire of Manjimup celebrated our local community champions at the weekend, with the 2026 Citizen of the Year awards held at the Walpole Community Hall on Saturday 7 February.
The event highlighted the incredible contribution of volunteers to the region and provided an opportunity to recognise nominees for their tireless efforts to improve community life. The 11 nominees from across the Shire were each acknowledged with a certificate, having dedicated their time to sport, emergency services, the arts, community projects and community events. Guest speaker for the event, local Walpole resident Michael Filby, gave an inspiring speech on the importance of volunteers and giving back to community.
Shire President, Donelle Buegge, led the event as MC. “The community champions celebration is a reminder of the strength and resilience within our community to overcome adversity and support one another” said President Buegge. “The awards show the capacity of our community for greatness and remind us all that by working together, we can create a strong, inclusive, and connected community”.
