The Shire of Manjimup Youth Engage and Empower Project delivered a series of Dismantle Bike Rescue workshops for the first week of the April school holidays in Walpole, Northcliffe, Pemberton, and Manjimup.
Despite being a very wet and cold week, the workshops were a huge success with both local and visiting youth enjoying a full day of hands-on learning and skill development with the Dismantle crew.
Dismantle Team Leader Brendan Thompson, and Youth Mentor Zoe Thomas were fantastic in sharing their knowledge and skills in bicycle maintenance, supporting, and encouraging youth to work on their bikes and work through issues as they arose.
Youth not only learnt about bicycle maintenance and how to fix and change bicycle parts, but many were also able to update their bike safety features. The workshop lined up perfectly for those competing in the 2023 Karri Cup to complete some last-minute bike check-ups before the challenge.
For an added challenge, some youth had the wonderful experience of re-building completely bikes from the wide range of frames and spare parts provided. As a bonus, four youth were lucky enough to ride away with newly built rescued bikes to keep courtesy of Dismantle!
