What Does Phase Two Mean For Us?
Stage two of the Governments Road COIVID-19 Road Map comes into effect on Monday 18 May 2020, these are decisions that have been made by the State and Commonwealth Governments at a National Cabinet Level, those directives are then carried out by Council.
What does that mean for Shire facilities?
Opening:
- the Windy Harbour Camp Ground will be reopened this week, the camp kitchen, BBQ's and playground will remain closed, the number of sites will be limited and secured by pre-bookings;
- Shire Libraries will open for 20 patrons at a time on 18 May 2020;
- the AquaCentre will open for 20 patrons at a time on 18 May 2020;
- fitness classes are being considered for up to 20 patrons, however, they may be relocated to a larger venue. A recommencement date is yet to be determined;
- Council meetings will recommence on 4 June 2020 with limited members of the public permitted to attend. Strict social distancing provisions will apply;
- funerals at our local cemeteries will be allowed up to 30 attendees; and
- the public toilets in Brockman Street and Giblett Street adjacent to Mitre 10 will be re-opened.
Not Open Yet:
- playgrounds;
- skate parks;
- outdoor Gyms; and
- museums and galleries.
"It is wonderful news that we are able to reopen some of our facilities and get some of our displaced employees back to their normal roles. The re-opening of some facilities will greatly ease the pressure for some of our residents that have struggled with the isolation and lack of activities brought about by the shutdown" commented Shire President Paul Omodei.
We are welcoming visitors back to the Shire "By all means come and visit us, but don't get complacent, maintain personal hygiene and social distancing rules, our aim is to remain COVID-19 free. We have much to offer at this time of year with stunning autumn colour everywhere, nature at your doorstep with abundant streams and Salmon still running on the coast, pick up some local fruit and vegies and then enjoy a glass of red by a cosy fire", he added.
Playgrounds, skate parks, outdoor gyms and museums and galleries remain closed and are expected to open in phase 3 which should come into effect approximately four weeks after phase 2, all going well.
